Spamshiners busted!

Ouch... I just realized my site has been infected with the dreaded comment spam. Gross stuff, too. I don't know why I didn't get the emails when the comments were posted—but I've corrected that. And I'm about halfway through scrubbing the site clean of the muck.
Ouch... I just realized my site has been infected with the dreaded comment spam. Gross stuff, too. At the moment I'm about halfway through scrubbing the site clean of the muck.

I don't know why I didn't get the emails when the comments were posted—but I've corrected that... Sadly, comments will have to be admin-moderated from now on.

So, my apologies. I don't know of any good anti-spam plugins for Postnuke yet. Someday I hope to switch to a more developed weblog/CMS, but my desire to convert the content from this one makes the job sound quite complicated and time-consuming. Until then, I deal with more drastic measures. Heh!

"You are nominated for a Ph.d"

Sheesh, and I thought you normally had to earn the things!

Unflexible Acrobat

I'm sorry, Adobe, your solution to the problem you caused is no solution at all. You must fix it!

Microsoft hints at this in their report of the issue, at KB906899, under the heading "Method 3: Contact Adobe".

Peace Out

Hey, it's Wednesday! That means tonight Ains & I go to our Financial Peace University class tonight. Trust me, this is exciting. It's so good to learn how to get our finances under control—and even more so, to start doing it!

Ever listen to Dave Ramsey on the radio? Neither had I. But as I write this I am now. His formula is simple: give good, timeless advice in a upbeat, encouraging way.

Scott Ott reports (along with a few less tongue-in-cheek news organizations, like the AP) North Korea Vows to Give Up Nukes, Lying.

Officially, "The United States affirmed that it has no nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula and has no intention to attack or invade (North Korea) with nuclear or conventional weapons." Do you wonder... are they lying, too? (And does it matter if the nukes are "on the Korean peninsula" if we have long-range missles, or ships which launch them?) Do you think the only reason North Korea had their sudden change-of-heart was that they didn't fail to notice the Pentagon's little leak on September 11th just over a week ago, like most of the U.S. missed?

Here we go again: Microsoft has release yet another version of the Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable. Is this another update? Note the date, 9/2/2005...

Warmongers!

I almost missed it yesterday, almost a side note in the jumble of the morning news. It was nearly two weeks into the Hurricane Katrina aftermath and the four-year anniversary of the attack on the Twin Towers, so the newscasters had so much to talk about. Thankfully, the Washington Post didn't miss it (registration-free reprint at MSNBC). And so, it slipped out: apparently, the Pentagon—and George W. Bush—have been hoping to change U.S. policy on nuclear weapons.

They've noticed—the rest of the world, that is. Search Google News, you'll see.

This fear-driven, power-hungry administration has forgotten the international treaties, forgotten the idea of deterrence, forgotten how "a gentle answer turns away wrath", forgotten Hiroshima and Nagasaki (not to mention the Marshall Islands)... and decided that our wants are more important than the survival of the planet, and we should be able to threaten anyone with The Big Guns and start a war if we want to.

In one of the most pointed commentaries on the situation, D.L. McCracken of Halifax Live says it's "Now Only a Matter of Time". If you don't read any other link I've pointed to, read this one.

Never have I been at once so scared and so disappointed to be an American citizen as I am right now.

You can't handle the truth

This past weekend's This American Life on NPR, entitled "After the Flood", had some amazing interviews with strugglers and survivors of the past couple weeks in New Orleans. And yes, the racism is real. Please listen to the RealAudio stream here.

... but I think you should read this if you've been fretting about Bush mishandling the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Quite thought-provoking.

It's Safe To Use Your Cell Phone Again

Finally, some good news about cell phones: they might not, after all, be causing cancer. Of course, everything else artificial that you might touch, breathe, or think about during the course of your day is still carcinogenic, but at least cell phones have been given a break for a little bit.
